How it Works

Mile to Ultramarathon

The Triangle Race Series (TRS) allows runners to compete in races of varied distances throughout the NC Triangle Area to earn Series points and prizes.

Why Choose Triangle Race Series races?

  • Series races are carefully selected to offer a premium race experience

  • Save: Runners who have completed at least 1 Series race get DISCOUNTS on additional Series races

  • Win: Runners accumulate Series points based on age group ranking in each race. Complete at least 5 of the 20+ Series races to qualify for Series age group awards (gift cards from our 2024 awards sponsor), drawings for FREE registrations in Series races, and an invitation to the amazing Triangle Race Series Awards Banquet.

Series Rules

Tie-Breaker Rule:  Point total ties are ranked in order of number of Series races completed. The runner who scored those points with fewer Series races wins, as that means they ranked higher in those races. If there is a tie in both total points and Series race completed, the lowest total combined time wins.

Qualifying for Awards: New for 2024: Complete at least 5 of the 20+ Series races to qualify for Series Awards and to score an invitation to the incredible Series Awards Banquet.

Series Races

Race Selection: Each Year Precision Race selects up to 25 races to be included in the Series. We carefully select each race to reflect our passion for quality, well-organized races for good causes. All Series races are timed by Precision Race, so runners know they will enjoy a premium race experience. While most races are in the NC Triangle area, we also include several “destination” races each year.

Multiple Distance Events: Some events, such as Ella’s Race and Run the Quay, have more than one distance. Not every distance is necessarily included in the Series. Ella’s Race, for instance includes 1 mile, 5K and 10K. Only the 5K and 10K are included in the Series. They are treated as separate Series races.

Virtual Races: For those races that offer both in-person and virtual options, only the in-person option will count toward Series ranking.

Participating in the Series

There is no need to register for the Series. Runners are automatically entered in the Triangle Race Series when they register for and complete any Series race.

Series Scoring

Each race chooses their own age groups for their race awards. Series scoring and ranking, however, is separate from the scoring/ranking of each race in the Series.

Series age groups are determined by age as of the last day of the year.

Series points are assigned based on each runner’s rank in their age group. This allows races of any distance to be included and scored together. Races can be any distance from mile to ultra-marathon. Time does not factor into Series scoring - only rank in your age group.

Series Points are based on the following age groups:  19 & Under, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80+.

Series Points are assigned as follows:

  • 1st – 50 points

  • 2nd – 45 points

  • 3rd – 40 points

  • 4th – 35 points

  • 5th – 30 points

  • 6th – 25 points

  • 7th – 20 points

  • 8th – 15 points

  • 9th – 10 points

  • 10th – 5 points

  • Participation – 5 points

The Triangle Race Series is produced by Precision Race.
